DJ Wilkinson offers a full range of landscaping services. Our small team ensures we provide a unique, professional and quality service. A recent project was for a private homeowner that wanted to turn a small piece of wasted ground into a new gardening area.

After a brief discussion it was agreed that a raised planting area would suit their needs and situation best. Raised beds make it even easier to “grow your own” vegetables and cut flowers. They offer improved soil, better drainage and warmer soil in the spring time. Growing in raised beds also helps keep damaging fungus and disease out of your soil and allows for easy soil rejuvenation. The extra height they can give your plants will also help rooting and allow a much larger crop in a smaller spaces.

The topsoil was scraped off and saved for later use and a geotextile membrane laid across the area. The raised boxes were constructed from weatherproof tanalised timber and constructed in positions to best suit the weather, appearance and individual requirements such as wheelbarrow access!

The area surrounding the new beds was then filled with a clean single sized granite chipping to give a durable surface to work from. Due to the new planting area being adjacent to agricultural land, a post and rail fence perimeter was constructed. This also provided an ideal fixture for windbreak netting and is sure to keep the sheep out!
